As 2014 comes to an end, everybody must look back and summarise the past year and maybe make a New Years resolution that they never really intend to keep! It's just that it's kind of expected so I'm going to ask everybody to make a New Years resolution on my behalf and make a conscious effort to
treat me as Lizzy, nothing more, nothing less.
My summary: this year I have been to the zoo, twice, played on many playgrounds, been to York and Norfolk twice, picnic at Wakerly woods, been regularly to the Farm Park, met loads of new people, been Santa at hospital, bought a new van (thanks dad!), went back to work, started Random Acts, met kevin Bridges, Dawn French and Gary Delaney, made friends with Lou Conran and Sarah Millican, raised £6,000 with a little help!, thrown Flynn his 1st birthday party, had a surprise 40th birthday for Tash, built Flynn a play den. And much much more!
I intend to have a happy new year like everyone else. Do things I want to do, spend time making memories with Tash and Flynn and continue to look for the positives and the funny bits.
A very wise person told me the best thing anyone (including me) can do is just be. Don't worry about what you should do, say, text etc. treat me as Lizzy cos that's who I am!
And if you know anyone going through this, no matter where they are on their journey, stop, think and treat them exactly as you did before.
So in honour of this, I am posting my poem again-
The awful term cancer
Is met with such dread
It messes with your body
And messes with your head
It has no body
It has no face
No funny little habits
No saving grace
So life's dealt you a blow
What do you do?
Hide in a corner
Or find someone who
Can stop the world spinning
Just for a while
To stop you from falling
And help you to smile
Just say the C word
instead of its name
Pretend it's not happening
And you are the same
But you can't ignore it
Run from it or hide
You have to dig deep
Find strength there inside
Find people you rely on
People you can trust
Don't fight how you are feeling
And do the things you must
Look for the good things
Because they are hiding there
Just open your heart up
And love all those who care
Meet lots of new faces
Every chance that you get
A stranger's a friend
That you just haven't met
Look for the good stuff
Not just the bad
It's not wrong to be happy
Not wrong to be sad
Don't hide how you're feeling
There are no set rules
No manual is given
Or case full of tools
So what's my advice
To my friends, family, me
Stop worrying what you should do
And just be.
So happy new year to all my family and friends
Let's make it a good one!
